Loni Loftus

BSc(Hons), MSc, PgAEd, CCAB

 

Loni Loftus is a Clinical Animal Behaviourist specialising in horses, cats and dogs. Loni works on veterinary referral to treat a wide range of behavioural problems in all three species and is registered with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council as a Clinical Animal Behaviourist and Animal Training Instructor. Loni also acts as an expert witness in animal welfare related legal cases and undertakes animal assessments for local authorities.

Loni is an experienced university lecturer currently supervising research projects and lecturing to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in animal behaviour and welfare. Loni is an external examiner for two UK universities and regularly presents on topics relating to animal behaviour and welfare at conferences and universities worldwide.

She is currently completing a PhD at Newcastle University on Equine behaviour and welfare, specialising in positive affective state.

Loni holds a degree in Equine Science, an MSc with Distinction in Applied Animal Behaviour and Welfare and a post-graduate teaching qualification. She is an academic member of the International Society for Equitation Science, British Society of Animal Science, a member of the British Veterinary Behaviour Association, Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour and a full member of the Association of Pet Behaviour counsellors.

Loni has published widely in peer-reviewed academic journals and continues to actively engage in research on farm, companion and working animal behaviour and welfare. She is an invited reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed international journals and has recently written the foreword for a new text on clicker training horses, Connection Training: The heart and science of positive horse training.
